I will never forget that day a few years back, when I found myself driving around, crying uncontrollably, and wondering why I couldn't stop.
Nothing was 'wrong' in my life, as I had a great job, a nice house, plenty of money, and my husband and I were getting along fine. Yet here I was, having some sort of breakdown.
As the oldest of eight kids, I was always the responsible one who could handle anything, until now. Since I didn't know what was happening, I called my sister, and she said it sounded like anxiety, and told me to drive to a walk-in clinic right now.
I remember sitting in the lobby, filling out the paperwork, and telling myself to stop crying, but I just couldn't. When I got in to see the doctor, she looked at me for about a minute and said 'Honey, you're just dealing with anxiety. Go see your primary care physician and get a blood test done, and in the meantime, take this.'
She handed me a prescription for Xanax, and I headed to the drug store to get it filled. For the next several years, that's what I used whenever I felt anxious, scared or super stressed. My husband called them my 'happy pills', but they didn't make me happy, they just made me feel like a zombie, like I didn't care that I was anxious and stressed. And it changed my personality when I was taking them, but I didn't know any other way to deal with it at the time.
And I like to drink wine, so the combination was not a great solution, but that's what I did. Then I learned about doTERRA Essential Oils and started on my journey to natural wellness.
I first heard about essential oils from a friend who gave me a bottle of peppermint oil from the health food store, and she liked to put a drop under her tongue. The label said not to use it internally, but she did it, so I thought it was OK to do. I used it occasionally, but it ended up in my medicine cabinet, and I never even considered that essential oils could be used for any real health concerns. They just smelled good.
My next experience with EOs came after my dad had a stroke, and my sister started him using Frankincense from doTERRA. After a couple of weeks, he had had such dramatic improvement, she called me to share the news. At first I was super skeptical, and had to do some research for myself.
A few days later, I contacted her to ask what oils doTERRA had for anxiety and stress, and how could I buy them.
My first two oils were Balance and Serenity, and after just a few days, I could feel the difference and the power in these oils. My husband and my friends could tell that I was acting different, better, happier, and that I also smelled great.
Then it clicked.
I wanted to know, needed to know, what else these oils could help with... I became obsessed with learning all I could, and I started collecting oils.
My friends started asking what oils could help them with things like pain, respiratory and digestive issues, and we looked it up together. This was so exciting to learn that there are alternatives to OTC and prescription drugs, and the oils really worked.
From that time, it just started taking on a life of it's own. I had to share the oils and what I was learning, to let people know they have a choice, and there is a better way.

Making healthier choices 80% of the time is a huge step in changing your overall health and wellness. This means less processed food, more whole food, organic whenever possible, and mostly plant based. And lots of clean water.
The next step is exercise, and moving your body in a way that is appropriate for your age and abilities. I use a FitBit to track my steps most every day, and as a reminder to get up and move. I also love to stretch and do body weight exercises like squats and lunges, and I have hand weights and bands for my arms. I also like to dance, so some days, that's what I do. I encourage you to just pick something that works for you and do it.
Sleep, rest and managing stress are also super important. Your mindset and how you view your world have a profound effect on your health.
Also, consider reducing toxins in and around your body, including your skin care and cleaning products. Many of the commercially produced products contain harmful chemicals that affect our immune and endocrine systems, and create imbalance and inflammation.
Informed healthcare options is where you hold the key, as is proactive self-care, all in an effort to avoid illness in the first place.
